High School Myrtle Beach Spring Trip Information

Congratulations to Robinson
Orchestra Director, Mrs. Anne Rupert, recipient of the Virginia
American String Teacher's Association 2009 Outstanding Orchestra
Director Award. The award will be presented at the Robinson High
School Winter
Concert on December 17th in Russell Theater. Mrs. Rupert also received
this award in 1994. Congratulations, Mrs. Rupert!

and Band students, selected to the 2009 - 2010 Senior Regional Orchestra:

These students will perform Mussorgsky's "Pictures at an Exhibition",
Dvorak's "Roman Carnival Overture" and Debussy's "Prelude
to the Afternoon of a Faun" under the direction of A. Scott Wood.
The concert will be on Saturday, November 14th at 7:30 p.m. at West
Potomac High School. Free admission.

Since the opening of Robinson Secondary in the fall of 1971, the Symphonic Orchestra has received consistent Superior ratings in Grade VI literature at VBODA District XI Festival, and has been recognized on the local, regional, state, and national level for its outstanding performances at numerous competitions in Toronto, Atlanta, Boston, Orlando, and Virginia Beach. In 1997 and 2004, the Robinson Symphonic Orchestra performed at the VMEA State Conference. In 2003, recognized as the highest scoring Orchestra in the 2003 Festival Season. In 2005, the Orchestra was awarded the Grand Champion award for the Atlanta Fiesta-Val competition -- representing the top Orchestra in the competition. At the North American Music Festival, Virginia Beach 2007, and the Dynamic Music Festival, Orlando 2008, the Symponic Orchestra received a Superior Rating.
The Orchestras of Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax, VA consist of over 200 performers in grades 7-12 comprising three string orchestras and one full symphonic orchestra. The string sections meet on a rotating A/B block schedule with the full 85 piece orchestra rehearsing one night a week. A large percentage of students study privately with members of the National Symphony Orchestra and other professional musicians in the Metro Washington D.C. area.
